LONDON FANS!
The band is taking a well-earned break for a few weeks now, but Langan Band fiddler Alastair Caplin is putting on a gig with his new trio 58° North at the wonderful The Green Note Camden next week alongside Tir Eolas - do come down if you can, it should be a lovely evening :)

Adv Tickets £7.00 Doors £9.00 58° North is the latitudinal line that links the home places of the three musicians that make up this exciting new folk act; Ewan MacDonald, Alastair Caplin, and Lewis Murray, with a combination of fiddles and mandolin. Between the three of them they have played on some of the UK's most prestigious stages, including The Royal Albert Hall, Westminster Abbey, The Barbican and The Roundhouse, and played with some of the UK's finest folk musicians- Alasdair Roberts, The Incredible String Band, Emily Portman, Abigail Washburn, and The Ceilidh Liberation Front.. After many evenings spent learning each other's playing and tunes, the band have melded a sound that bonds together the ancient tradition of Scottish Traditional music with folk music from other European and Scandinavian traditions. The music ranges from the most intimate stringed slow airs to fiery table-thumping sets of reels. LISTEN TO 58° NORTH: soundcloud.com/58-north/sets/welsh-chapel-recordings Chamber folk/ alt-folk group Tir Eolas (Philippa Mercer - vocals/flutes, Laura Snowden - guitar/vocals, Ruairi Glasheen - percussion/vocals, Georgie Harris - viola/vocals and Hedi Pinkerfeld - bass/vocals) draw on their Celtic and English folk roots, combining traditional folk and original material, from virtuosic instrumentals to 5-part harmonies. Highlights in recent performances have been Bestival, Cecil Sharp House, Royal Albert Hall, Sage Gateshead, Kings Place, City of London Festival, Milton Court Concert Hall, Ronnie Scotts, and the BBC Proms (broadcast on BBC Radio 3). The group were selected for the inaugural City Music Foundation Award in 2013, and as a result were able to record their debut album Stories Sung, Truths Told, which was released in early 2015. Projects for 2015 included a concert at Shakespeare’s Globe for a series curated by guitarist John Williams, and a residency at Aldeburgh Music alongside artist Jo Lewis. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH GLASGOW! Really quite overwhelmed by the turnout last night and the wonderful vibes that were flowing from you lovely lot :) Huge thanks to Ross Ainslie for joining us on stage, and to Celtic Connections for having us!
We're definitely taking it easy today, though if anyone was unable to get hold of a Langan Band album or T-shirt, there's rumours of restorative pints and steak at Stravaigin later on …

Lastly, if anyone photos or videos of the gig then please post them up to the band page, we'd love to see them!

8 years after winning the prestigious Danny Kyle Award, The Langan Band are finally making their grand return to Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow! On 28th Jan you can see the band play in one of the country's most beautiful and iconic venues - and as a special treat, they've got Piper Extrodanaire and Celtic Connections veteran Ross Ainslie joining them as a special guest appearance. The Langan Band originally formed in Glasgow nearly ten years ago now, so this epic show in the town of the their birth is not one to be missed! With a deceptively stripped down line-up of vocals, guitar, fiddle, bass and percussion, they released their debut album, Bones of Contention, to ecstatic reviews in 2013, following up two years later with the double disc I'm Alive/Live at the Globe. "Extraordinary stylistic dexterity...uncategorisable and irresistible" (Acoustic Magazine) Adding further cosmopolitan flavours to the night's musical melting-pot, French five-piece Zoufris Maracas - selected for a WOMEX showcase in 2015 - stir together strains of chanson, manouche, African and Latin sounds, plus a dash of Jacques Brel-esque cabaret, with vibrant vocals backed by trumpet, guitars and percussion.

Two turds of The Langan Band, out of their ellement and heavily procrastinating from laying down some performances for Irish Tv.

See them in their prime TOMORROW NIGHT, tearing up the crowd, as only they know how, at the SPECTACULAR Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.

Still some tickets left..

PM The Langan Band for limited cheap ones. ;-)

Possibly our biggest gig so far is coming up this Thursday, and people of Scotland we'd love to see your smiling dancing faces there! We've got pipe aficionado Ross Ainslie making a special guest appearance with possibly the quickest set of reels you've ever heard, and it is going to be one hell of a show ;)

We've got a special cheap ticket list, so the first 100 people to PM us will be able to get in for only £10

Come and join in the fun!

Pirates faced the might of Ninjas (and won); Pirates faced the flamboyant might of Panto (and lost); Panto faced the terrifying might of Monsters, and on and on, throughout the aeons, the battles have continued. This Christmas, Rumpus invites you to choose a monochromatic side and stand firm against your chosen foe: will you join the cheery, bearded, slightly creepy legions of Santae, armed with nothing but goodwill, suspiciously wrapped parcels and candy canes? Or will you choose to fight for the so-cute-its-terrifyingly-creepy Pandae, backed by an utter lack of interest in your own self-preservation and more bamboo than you could possibly ever chew on? For the past year we’ve seen the likes of the Panda Defence League and Britain’s Not For Pandas clash and clash again - now is the time for a victor to emerge. We're back in Edinburgh on Monday night!! Come and join us? xx ... See MoreSee Less

It’s an up-on-your-feet night on Monday 7 December when The John Langan Band hit The Traverse Bar for the first time. A dynamic three piece offering a unique sound emerging from Celtic, Gypsy Swing, Roma and Flamenco, they deliver high energy, unhinged, and musically extravagant grooves. The trio, made up of John Langan on guitar and lead vocals, Dave Tunstall on double bass and vocals, and Alastair Caplan on fiddle and vocals, confound the limitations of what people might expect acoustic instruments to sound like: the use of bowed harmonics between fiddle and bass can be as menacing and eerie as it can be psychedelic and mesmerising. Percussion is provided by the front man Langan, whilst singing and driving the rhythm guitar. He somehow co-ordinates the operating of a cajon and a tambourine with his feet bringing the driving, swinging groove of the rhythm guitar together with his foot percussion resulting in an impressively tight band sound with a tempo that is free to go anywhere. The band say, ‘if you’re not dancing like a professional ostrich by the end of the night you get a refund’.

They are in the proccess of getting their license so at the moment its Bring Your Own Booze which will be £3 per head, so buy what you like from the shop before & head on down. JOHN LANGAN BAND ‘Astonishing work, boundlessly inventive... driving rhythms and mesmerising folk melodies' R2 Magazine The John Langan Band are a dynamic trio, with a sound that is rooted in Celtic Folk but encompasses Balkan, Roma, Gypsy Swing and Flamenco. The band met in Glasgow and has been playing together for 8 years. Their performances are high energy, unhinged, and musically extravagant, as they take traditional acoustic idioms and deliver them with a punk abandonment and virtuosic flare. JOUIS Jouis (Jhew-ee) are a 5 piece band based in Brighton. Combining Jazz, Psychedelia and Progressive Rock, their sounds are designed to open your mind, and spirit you away to new lucid dimensions.
